Birds

poetry birds journeys freedom security

Do you see the bird, my darling?
The one on an upward glide
All looking ahead, and fast as an arrow
A fluttering heart, and wings beside

It is singing a song of freedom
It has dreamt of endless skies
Its path is unknown…the path is immaterial
Its guides- one heart, two eyes

As we sit here sky-gazing till evening,
I’m sure you see this other bird too
It’s slower, and on steadied wings
Flying nest-ward without ado

It knows its path, and destination
-both of which it has built
The world can wait, and the skies
It’s time for the heart to be re-filled

We watch the birds, my darling
The first, then other one,
Over, over and over…
the first and the other again

By now do you see, darling
There is no ‘other’- just the one?
Same bird, on different journeys
With the days n seasons of the sun

You are beautiful, my darling
And there is no you.
You are also me,
Watching you through a window

I am watching through a window
And there is no me
All that is, is an endless circle
of the first, then the other journey
